Young actor in the fold? Here’s a chance with Boise Little Theater and Boise Parks and Rec

Actors ages 13-18 are invited to audition May 10-11 for “High School Musical Jr.,” presented by Boise Little Theater and Boise Parks & Recreation.

Producers are looking for actors, singers, dancers and technical theater people for this annual production. Performers should prepare two-minute songs of their choice to be sung a capella or with recorded music (CD player and iPod adapter will be provided).  To make an appointment for your audition, please see http://highschoolmusical2014.eventsbot.com/.

Here’s the play’s plot: Wildcat basketball star Troy Bolton and brainiac Gabriella Montez raise eyebrows among their friends when they decide to audition for the high school musical. Cliques clash and friendships are tested. The students of East High must decide whether to stick to the status quo or break free to find out what’s truly important.

The production is directed by Whitney Ulmen with musical direction by Becky Duggan and choreography by Esther Garza.

There is no fee to audition. However, cast members are asked to pay a $25 fee to cover a T-shirt, script, cast party and other administrative costs.

There are parts for 32 actors, including ensemble. Not everyone who auditions will be cast. A mandatory cast and parent meeting will begin at 11 a.m.  Saturday, May 17 at the Boise Little Theater, 100 E. Fort St.

Rehearsals will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday May 19-29 and Monday-Friday June 2-July 11.

Show dates are 7:30 p.m. July 24-26 and July 31-Aug. 1 and 2 p.m. July 27 & Aug. 2 at Boise Little Theater on Fort Street. For information, please see youthsummermusical@gmail.com.
