‘Ice-out’ is starting on Idaho’s lower-elevation waters

ArrowrockIce is starting to come off Arrowrock and Lucky Peak reservoirs. Last weekend I saw open water and large cracks on both reservoirs.

Anglers are hitting the open areas of the reservoirs in hopes of catching trout cruising the open-water shorelines. Fish often cruise the shorelines at “ice-out.”

Anglers were congregating in the open water on Lucky Peak Reservoir between Macks Creek and Arrowrock Dam. There was some open water on Arrowrock just past Arrowrock Dam.

Worms and marshmallows from the bank is a popular rig for fishing on both reservoirs. Anglers at Arrowrock reported that the trout were small.
