Tyler Cox, Boise: The Braves earned their first victory of the season behind a strong effort from Cox, who led his team back from an early 14-0 deficit. The 6-foot, 165-pound senior quarterback completed 31-of-50 passes for 322 yards and four touchdowns, including the game-winning toss in the fourth quarter, as Boise defeated Centennial 29-27.


Lily Austin, Skyview: The Hawks won a tournament championship for the second consecutive week, claiming the 64-team Spokane Crossover Classic with a 25-14, 25-17 sweep of previously unbeaten Lewiston in the title match. Austin, a senior libero, was able to consistently dig every opponent’s big hitter during the tournament and was key to starting the Hawks’ offense in serve receive, coach Kevin Murphy said. Austin averages 26 digs per match for the Hawks (32-2).


Mickie Piechowski, Bishop Kelly: The Knights avenged their lone tie from earlier in the season with a 1-0 victory over Middleton. Piechowski scored the game-winner against the Vikings and finished the week with four goals and four assists as BK also posted a 7-1 rout of Columbia and an 8-0 win over Mountain Home.


Tyler Smith, Eagle: The senior captain’s leadership has been key to the Mustangs’ late-season surge. Eagle earned a 7-1 win against Meridian and a 3-0 shutout over Timberline last week. Smith, a center midfielder, had one goal against Timberline last week, and coach Chris Butzier said his play was instrumental in both victories.


Mikayla Malaspina, Vallivue: The junior ran to victory in the Gary Ward Invitational at Lakeview Park in Nampa. Malaspina’s time of 18 minutes, 43.08 seconds was the fastest time of the week among District Three runners based on results reported to the Idaho Statesman. The Falcons also won the team title at Gary Ward.


Scott Sullivan, Centennial: The senior finished second at the 34-team Dani Bates Invitational in Twin Falls. Sullivan’s time of 16 minutes, 7.98 seconds was the fastest time of the week among District Three runners based on results reported to the Idaho Statesman. The Patriots finished third as a team.
