Roland Sena, Columbia: The senior running back scored the game-winning touchdown in Columbia’s 35-34 upset of Middleton. Sena finished with 28 carries for 207 yards and three touchdowns to help first-year coach Brandon Harris and the Wildcats get off to a 2-0 start.
Kate Tsourmas, Boise: The Braves won both of their matches last week with the help of their junior middle blocker. Tsourmas had 14 kills, 10 blocks and was 18-for-18 from the service line in Boise’s five-game win over Mountain View. She also had 14 kills, six blocks, three aces and a 17-for-17 performance from the service line in a four-game victory against Meridian.
Maddie Brown, Middleton: The senior forward/goalkeeper made seven saves to help the Vikings tie Bishop Kelly 1-1. BK had won 70 straight games before last week’s tie. Earlier in the week, Brown scored three goals in an 8-0 rout of Nampa.
Tommy Hentges, Bishop Kelly: The Knights remained unbeaten with a pair of victories last week. Hentges, a senior forward, had one goal in a 2-0 win against Mountain Home, and two more goals in a 4-0 victory over Middleton.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Sara Christianson, Borah: The sophomore won the Silverwood Coaster Cross in Athol in a time of 18 minutes, 48.4 seconds, leading the Lions to a team victory. Christianson’s time is the second fastest in the state this season, according to athletic.net.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Zach Wiberg, Capital: The junior claimed first place at the Silverwood Coaster Cross in Athol with a time of 15 minutes, 54.6 seconds. Wiberg’s time is the second fastest in the state this season, according to athletic.net, and helped the Eagles earn the team win.
