Varsity Extra athletes of the week (Sept. 16-21)

FOOTBALL

Josh Buss, Mountain View: The senior running back broke his own school record with 24 carries for 327 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-21 victory over Borah. Buss, who had touchdown runs of 20, 60 and 93 yards, also caught two passes for 30 yards as the Mavericks racked up a school record 581 yards on the ground.

VOLLEYBALL

Rachel Greiner, Bishop Kelly: The senior outside hitter led the Knights to a pair of three-set sweeps against Middleton and Emmett. Greiner, who has led Bishop Kelly in kills the past two seasons, totaled 28 kills, 13 digs and two blocks in two matches.

GIRLS SOCCER

Rikki Fix, Boise: Last year’s 5A Southern Idaho Conference player of the year is having another standout season. The senior forward helped the Braves pick up two wins last week. Fix had one goal and one assist in a 2-1 win over Meridian and then added one goal in a 3-1 victory against Mountain View. Fix currently ranks third overall in the 5A SIC this season with 10 goals and four assists.

BOYS SOCCER

Kevin Solis, Emmett: The Huskies earned two 4A Southern Idaho Conference victories last week behind the scoring of their senior midfielder. Solis had both goals in a 2-0 win against Nampa and then scored three goals in a 4-1 rout of Kuna.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Emily Hamlin, Boise: The junior was the top Idaho finisher in the girls elite race at the Bob Firman Invitational at Eagle Island State Park. Hamlin crossed the line in 18 minutes, 41.19 seconds for 12th place, helping the Braves finish eighth as a team. Hamlin’s time ranks second in the state this season, according to athletic.net.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Andrew Rafla, Timberline: The senior had the best finish among District Three runners in the boys elite race at the Bob Firman Invitational at Eagle Island State Park. Rafla ran the 5-kilometer course in 15 minutes, 34.57 seconds. His time ranks second in the state this season, according to athletic.net.
