Varsity Extra athletes of the week (Jan. 13-18)

Hanna Orton, Boise: The Braves moved into third place in the 5A Southern Idaho Conference with two victories last week. The sophomore guard had 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 69-62 overtime win against Mountain View. Orton then had 11 points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal in limited minutes of a 56-23 rout of Vallivue.

Danielle Jardine, Nampa: The Bulldogs upset two teams ahead of them in the 4A Southern Idaho Conference standings last week. The junior post contributed 20 points and 12 rebounds in a 40-36 win against No. 2 Bishop Kelly. Jardine finished the week with 10 points and six rebounds in a 38-37 victory over No. 3 Middleton.


Sam Simpson, Boise: The senior returned from a knee injury to lead the Braves to a pair of wins in the 5A Southern Idaho Conference. Simpson had 21 points, eight rebounds and three assists in a 67-60 win against Eagle. He wrapped up the week with 24 points and 16 rebounds in a 65-55 overtime victory over Centennial.


Tyler Jaramillo, Kuna: The Kavemen won the team championship at the Tiger/Grizz Invitational in Idaho Falls. Jaramillo, a senior, won his first individual championship at the tournament by making his way through a tough bracket at 152 pounds. Jaramillo topped defending 4A state champion Jacom Stacey of Bonneville with a sudden victory takedown in overtime. The final score was 10-6.
