BOYS BASKETBALL
Jakob Hyde, North Star Charter: The Huskies picked up two big wins last week to improve to 14-6 overall and 8-4 in the 2A Western Idaho Conference. In a 63-53 upset of top-ranked Cole Valley Christian, Hyde had 21 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. The senior post then added 14 points and 11 rebounds in a 36-28 victory over Marsing. With last week’s wins, North Star earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming 2A District Three Tournament.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Liz Landreth, Capital: The senior guard earns athlete of the week honors for the second straight week after leading the Eagles to their first district championship since 1978. Landreth spearheaded No. 5 Capital’s 71-63 double-overtime victory over No. 2 Mountain View in the 5A District Three championship game by scoring 37 points with seven rebounds, four steals, three assists. She also made a 3-pointer at the buzzer to force a second overtime. With the win, the Eagles earned the league’s No. 1 seed at this week’s 5A state tournament at the Idaho Center in Nampa.
WRESTLING
Dakota Bennett, Borah: The Lions pulled off a surprise victory in the 11th annual Grapple for the Granite last week at Boise High. Borah defeated Timberline 54-27 in the first round and then knocked off Capital 52-33 to win the city championship for the third time in four seasons. Bennett, one of two seniors on the Lions’ roster, played a key role in the both victories, Borah coach Bill West said. Bennett won both of his matches by pin for his first varsity wins of the season.
