BOYS BASKETBALL

Luke Meyers, Bishop Kelly: The Knights claimed the 4A District Three championship and the league’s No. 1 seed at state with two victories last week. In a 53-46 win against Middleton in the district semifinals, Meyers had 15 points, seven rebounds, two steals and one assist. The senior forward finished the week with 16 points, nine rebounds, three steals, one assist and one blocked shot in BK’s 59-36 win over Skyview in the district championship game.

WRESTLING

Hayden Tuma, Centennial: The senior won the 145-pound championship at the 5A state tournament with a 4-3 decision over Lewiston’s Bryce Parson. With the victory, Tuma became just the sixth wrestler in Idaho history to win four individual championships at the 5A level, and 20th overall among all classifications. Tuma wrestled the entire season with a broken shoulder and is scheduled to have surgery Wednesday.

Michael Cook, Kuna: The senior finished his high school career with the rare distinction of being a four-time Rollie Lane champion and four-time state champion. Cook defeated Wood River’s Cooper Bailey by pin in their 132-pound match in the 4A classification, helping the Kavemen win the team championship with a record 318 points.

Tristian Jarboe, Columbia: With his pin of Bonneville’s Donivan Banks at 145 pounds in the 4A classification, Jarboe joined an elite group of wrestlers to win four consecutive individual state championships. Jarboe and Cook each won Saturday at the Ford Idaho Center, becoming the first two wrestlers to accomplish the feat at the 4A level. Jarboe, a senior, had lost to Banks earlier in the season.
