Nate Woods, New Plymouth: The fourth-seeded Pilgrims battled their way to the 2A District Three Tournament championship last week with a 45-44 win over North Star Charter. Woods was instrumental in the victory, as he made an assist with 1.2 seconds left to cut North Star’s lead to one point, and then added a steal with 1.1 seconds left. Finally, Woods hit the game-winning shot as time expired to lead New Plymouth to its fourth district title in a row. He finished the game with 16 points, five steals, two rebounds and two assists.
WRESTLING
Lionel Perez, Weiser: The senior made a dramatic comeback in his 126-pound state championship match Saturday at Holt Arena in Pocatello. Trailing 11-3, Perez pinned Timberlake’s Kody Hongslo with 19 seconds left to win his second state title.
