Two Treasure Valley baseball players named to All-American team

TheĀ 2013 Louisville Slugger Pre-Season High School All-America baseball team included two athletes from Treasure Valley high schools.

Rocky Mountain senior center fielder Mason Smith was a first-team pick in the outfield, and Fruitland senior Joe Martarano was a first-team selection as a multi-position athlete. Smith has committed to play baseball at Utah, while Martarano has signed with the Boise State football team.

The accolades don’t end there for this local pair. Both also were named to Baseball America’s Top 100 high school scouting report. Smith landed at No. 51 and Martarano at No. 86.

PerfectGame.org chose Smith and Martarano as members of its Northwest Region dream team, which includes athletes from Idaho, Oregon and Washington.
