Two locally-based film projects launch campaigns

Kickstarter is the fuel for many a DIY film producer. Here are two by Idaho filmmakers that are asking for your support.

Boise based True Story Media filmmakers Karen Day’s and Andy Lawless’ latest documentary “From the Ground Up,” examines the work of a group of Harvard undergraduate students who are making a difference in the fight against hunger and malnutrition in Uganda. The doc looks at why relief efforts often fail in the developing world and what it takes to make them successful. It turns out it’s Micro Empowerment.

Boise filmmakers Stephen Heleker and Cody Gittings launched a Kickstarter to help fund their screen adaptation of Alan Heathcock’s story “Smoke” with Heathcock, who is writing the screenplay. It’s one of the stories in his compelling, award winning collection “Volt.”
