‘The Other Studio’ recap: Sept. 29, 2013 (and goodbye for a week)

Here’s what Tim Johnstone and I played on tonight’s show. Among our normal barrage of random topics, we talked about the music of “GTA V” and modern country music’s devolution into “bad rock with a fiddle.” “The Other Studio” will air as usual Oct. 6, but this blog won’t be updated during the next week while I take a few days off.

  • Greg Holden, “The Lost Boy”
  • Laura Mvula, “Green Garden”
  • George McRae, “I Get Lifted”
  • Bootsy Collins, “I’d Rather Be With You”
  • Willy Tea Taylor, “Life is Beautiful”
  • Sturgill Simpson, “Life Ain’t Fair” (And the world is mean! Live performance below)
  • New Transit, “Let It Go”

“The Other Studio” airs from 9 to 10 p.m. Sundays on 94.9 The River.

Michael Deeds is the Idaho Statesman’s entertainment columnist and Scene magazine editor. His column runs Fridays and Sundays. He appears on the 6 p.m. broadcast of "Today's 6 News" on Thursdays and hosts a music show, "The Other Studio," from 9-10 p.m. Sundays on 94.9 FM The River.
