Thanks to some early season natural snow and colder temperatures for an abundance of snowmaking, Sun Valley Resort will open Nov. 28, Thanksgiving Day with four high-speed quads and two magic carpets for youngsters.
The lifts will service 11 runs and a Progressive Park on Baldy and Dollar mountains.
Opening for skiing and snowboarding will be Upper College, Lower College, Sunset Strip, 42nd St., Roundhouse Lane, Roundhouse Slope, Lower Canyon, Mid River Run and Lower River Run on Baldy.
The terrain will be accessible by the following chairlifts: River Run No.1, Lookout Express No. 5 and Christmas Quad No. 3. The Kinderspielplatz also will be open.
On Dollar Mountain, the Quarter Dollar lift will be in operation as well as the Accelerator Carpet. Poverty Flats, Quarter Dollar Bowl and a Progressive Park will be open. (Dollar Mountain will continue daily operation through Dec. 1 and then close until re-opening for the season Dec. 14).
Lodges on Baldy opening for the season will be River Run Lodge and Lookout Restaurant. Carol’s Dollar Mountain Lodge will be open on Dollar through Dec. 1 with Kindercare available 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
As snow conditions vary continuously it is best to check updated mountain reports for current conditions and possible expanded terrain: (800) 635-4150, or go HERE
The Bald Mountain report showed 18 inches of snow at the top of the mountain and mid-mountain and 12 inches at the base.
