Boise State will ask the State Board of Education this week to make huge reductions in the buyout provisions of Athletic Director Mark Coyle’s contract, which runs through 2016.

The buyout will drop from $700,000 to $150,000 through 2014 and from $350,000 to $75,000 through 2015. There is no buyout for the final year.

Boise State says in the State Board documents that the new buyout puts Coyle’s contract in line with other university contracts. The buyouts for coaches in the department are roughly 36 percent of compensation. Coyle’s is more than 100 percent.

Coyle’s base salary is $331,500. He can receive up to $120,000 per year in incentives.

One other change: Wording was added so that the restrictions on Coyle taking another athletic director job — he needed permission of the president — will not apply if President Bob Kustra leaves his position.

The State Board meets Wednesday and Thursday in Pocatello.
