State Board cuts BSU, U of I tuition increase requests

The Idaho State Board of Education approved a 5.5 percent tuition increase for full time Boise State students next year down from 6.1 percent the school requested Wednesday.

That means students will pay an additional $348 dollars a year instead of $384 Boise State was hoping to get. Total annual tuition will be $6,640.

The Board also reduced University of Idaho’s proposed tuition increase to 4 percent, down from 4.7 percent, which means students will pay an additional $260 a year instead of $308. Total tuition will be $6,784.

The votes followed intense debate aboutĀ 6 how much Idaho colleges and universities should be raising tuition considering the Legislature has increased spending to higher education by more thanĀ  percent for next year.

The trim in proposed increases doesn’t change Idaho’s streak of continual increases in college tuition for more than two decades.
