The Idaho State Board of Education on Wednesday approved the University of Idaho to install a 50-foot wide and 30-foot tall video board on the east side of Kibbie Dome, which is scheduled to be finished in time for the Vandals’ home opener Sept. 14 against Northern Illinois.

The cost of the board, along with installation and software, will be $1.15 million. Of that total, $364,537 will be covered by University Support Services, which operates the dome and will use the board for events like graduation and the Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival. Lead partners on the project are the Idaho Potato Commission as well as Blue Cross of Idaho and Commercial Tire, which have contributed $550,000 toward the $787,321 cost to the athletic department. The additional money will be raised by sponsorships or department revenue. Installation will begin June 10 and is expected to be completed in early August.
