Spring steelheading starting in the Upper Salmon River

Video by Idaho Fish and Game
Word is that the ice jam at Deadwater downstream from Salmon has washed out, which allows the steelhead to move upstream and is the unofficial kick off of spring fishing up there. As rivers at low elevations start rising, this area gets most of its water from the higher elevations and can remain fishable. March is typically prime time up there, and the river between Stanley and Salmon is a great spring road trip. With warmer in the forecast, it might be worth a weekend road trip. Check Thursday’s Idaho Outdoors fishing report for an update.
