Just got call from an Idaho Fish and Game official asking about a closures at the Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge due to the federal government shutdown. According to a press release from Deer Flat, “While a lapse in appropriations remains in effect, public access to Service properties will be prohibited and fish and wildlife management activities and public programs will be cancelled. This includes access to fishing as well as upland game, waterfowl, and deer hunting on the Lake Lowell and Snake River Islands Units.”
Which begs the question, who’s going to enforce this closure? I can kind of see shutting down Lake Lowell, but the Snake River Islands? Seems odd to me. Not sure who to call with the shutdown.
