Sharon Jones and Josh Ritter to perform Sun Valley concerts this summer

Sun Valley Center for the Arts is getting into the summer-concert game again with outdoor shows at River Run.

  • Funky soul singer Sharon Jones and her world-class band, The Dap Kings, will perform Sunday, July 14. The group visited Boise last month, braving frigid temperatures to dazzle a large crowd at the main stage of Treefort Music Fest.

  • Moscow native Josh Ritter and his own standout backing group, The Royal City Band, will headline Wednesday, Aug. 14. In March, Ritter released a personal album, “The Beast in Its Tracks,” which has garnered significant critical acclaim.

Tickets to each show will range from $30 to $85. Members get first dibs; tickets go on sale to them May 17 with a 10 percent discount. Tickets to the general public go on sale May 31 at sunvalleycenter.org.

With Jones and Ritter gigging within three hours of Idaho’s capital city, it’s natural to wonder if there will be concerts in Boise, too. Jones was just here, so that doesn’t seem likely. But if you’re not wild about making the drive to Sun Valley to see Ritter, be patient. A lot can happen before those tickets go on sale at the end of May. That’s all I’m going to say.

Just remember: River Run is a pretty sweet place for live music. You can take your own picnic with food and drinks, as well as low-back chairs. Or you can just buy grub and beverages on-site.
