Saturday walk / ride will benefit family of Boise pastor imprisoned in Iran

A community fund-raising walk / ride that’s planned for 9 a.m. Saturday in Nampa will benefit the family of Saeed Abedini, who remains in an Iranian prison. All are welcome to participate.

About 200 have registered to participate so far, according to a release Tuesday from organizers of “Save Saeed Community Benefit Ride / Walk.”

In January, the 32-year-old pastor was found guilty of “threatening the national security of Iran through his leadership in fostering Christian house churches” and sent to prison for eight years.

Abedini traveled to Iran last summer to visit family and help with the building of an orphanage. He was put under house arrest in June, then imprisoned in September.

Abedini has a wife, Naghmeh, and two young children.

The race / walk will begin in the dental plaza parking lot at 349 W. Iowa Ave. (12th and Iowa), then head north 4.4 miles along the greenbelt. The cost is $20 for individuals (includes one T-shirt) or $75 for families (includes up to five T-shirts; additional shirts cost $6 each)
