Senior Charlie Shepherd of Salmon River High in Riggins signed a letter of intent to play football for the College of Idaho on Thursday afternoon.

Shepherd is one of 15 Idaho high school football players to commit to the resurrected program, which will begin play in the fall of 2014 as an NAIA team in the Frontier Conference.

The 5-foot-8, 140-pounder played wide receiver and defensive back for Salmon River, leading the Savages to a 1A Division II eight-man state championship this past November and earning first-team honors on the All-Idaho football team. Shepherd then followed with a state title in basketball in March and a first-team appearance on the All-Idaho basketball team.

Joining Shepherd in C of I’s inaugural class are QB Tim Olson (Kendrick), RB/LBs Hunter Larson (Emmett High) and Jason Byce (Twin Falls), LBs Trevor Henderson (Vallivue), Travis Spengler (Kuna) and Ben Ceccarelli (Mountain Home), linemen Jacob Segali (Centennial) and Andrew Galloway (Payette), WR/DBs Lance Jones (Garden Valley), Josh Lopez (Caldwell), Cory Brady (Bishop Kelly), Marcus Lenhardt (Eagle) and Taylor Gillens (Rigby), and K Cesar Montes (McCall-Donnelly).

Below is a list that includes Treasure Valley athletes (2013 graduates unless otherwise noted) who have either signed a letter of intent or have verbally committed to compete for a college or university. The information was provided to the Statesman by high school coaches and administrators or by club team officials. College commitments and signings can be sent to
