The new snow park at Eagle Island State Park will host its inaugural “Rail Jam” Wednesday, Jan. 8 for skier and snowboarders. Registration starts at 4:30 and the competition starts at 6. There will be separate contests for skiers and snowboarders, and age categories. Entry fee is $5 in addition to the $10 fee for the terrain park. There is no minimum age to compete.

Skiers and boarders will hit a series of jumps and rails and get as many runs in as they can in about a 45-minute preliminary, then judges will pick finalists to compete for merchandise prizes from local ski/board shops. Prizes will include a new set of skis and a new snowboard.

Gateway Parks, which operates the tubing hill and terrain park, is redoing the course from the event, which is the first of a series at park that will take place on Wednesday evenings over the next two months.
