Payette River gets stocked with rainbow trout

Idaho Fish and Game is resuming stocking catchable-sized rainbow trout in the Payette River at Plaza Bridge off Idaho 52 about a mile downstream from Black Canyon Dam. The dam is between Emmett and Horseshoe Bend.

About 500 fish were stocked on Nov. 12, so anglers can try to catch them right away. About 500 will be stocked monthly during fall, winter and spring before high water. The next stocking is scheduled for mid December.

“We will test it for two or three years to determine if rainbows can survive long enough to return to the creel at an acceptable rate,” said Joe Kofzkay, F&G’s southwest region fish manager.
