Olé ! Nampa unveils first artwork in ‘Paint the Box’ series

Nampa City Council President Martin Thorne and artist Helen Grainger Wilson unwrapped the box Thursday morning.mariachis

The artwork, entitled “Olé!,” is vinyl art wrap created from an original watercolor by artist Helen Grainger Wilson. The painting depicts recent traditional Mexican dance performances in Nampa and Boise.

The traffic utility box is at the corner 14th Avenue South and 2nd Street South, across the street from the Flying M Coffeegarage.

It is the first of many boxes throughout the city that will be adorned as part of the Paint the Box program. One of the goals is to decrease graffiti and vandalism.

Grants from the Idaho Commission on the Arts, National Endowment on the Arts and matching funds from Community Development Block Grants helped make the first box possible. The artist donated her artwork for the project.

Norma Pintar, co-founder of the Hispanic Folkloric Dancers of Idaho, performed Thursday morning.
