Nampa firefighters hold fundraiser, demonstration on March 1

Fifteen members of the Nampa Fire Department are heading to Seattle to compete March 9 in the Scott Firefighter Stairclimb to support The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

On Saturday, March 1, the Nampa firefighter team, among the top 10 fundraising teams in the nation, will hold a fundraiser and demonstrate its stair-climbing skills from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Dutch Bros. Coffee, 373 Caldwell Blvd. in Nampa.

During the fundraiser, the firefighters will show how they must carry their equipment and climb 69 flights of stairs (1,311 steps) to reach the observation deck in the Columbia Center, the second tallest building west of the Mississippi.

The Nampa team has set a goal of $20,000. Participants raise the money through individual and department fundraising and entry fees. In 2013, the event featured 1,500 firefighters from 282 different departments and brought in a record $1.44 million for blood-cancer research and patient services.
