Normally, this is the time of year when agency heads submit budget requests for the next fiscal year, which begins July 1.
But Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Luna says he needs more time to draw up his budget.
Luna says he wants more time to incorporate the recommendations of Gov. Butch Otter’s education reform task force. Those recommendations were completed on Aug. 23; their total cost could run several hundred million dollars.
Luna now will have until October to write a budget proposal.
