State golf: Eagle boys, Rocky girls, BK girls win titles

5A GIRLS

Rocky Mountain (689) defended its team title by 24 strokes over second-place Vallivue (713). Vallivue senior Gabby Barker dominated the field at Highland Golf Course in Pocatello, shooting rounds of 68 and 70 for a 23-stroke victory.

Top five teams: 1. Rocky Mountain 689, 2. Vallivue 713, 3. Eagle 719, 4. Idaho Falls 725, 5. Timberline 732.

Eagle (595) collected its fifth consecutive state championship by 15 strokes over Boise (610). Vallivue’s Connor Johnston (144), who qualified as an individual, shot a second-round 73 to overtake first-day leader Guillermo Fairbairn (148) of Boise and Eagle’s Chris Carew (147).

4A GIRLS

Bishop Kelly (652) won its second state title in a row by 111 strokes over second-place Middleton (763). BK senior Haley Nist also defended her individual championship, shooting rounds of 69 and 70 at Twin Falls Golf Club.

4A BOYS

Twin Falls (556) claimed its third championship in a row by extending its lead over second-place Bishop Kelly (584) on its home course. Derek Bayley (132) of Lakeland, who won as an individual in 2012, finished a stroke ahead of defending champion Hunter Ostrom (133) of BK.

Top five team scores: 1. Twin Falls 556, 2. Bishop Kelly 584, 3. Skyview 586, 4. Canyon Ridge 601, 5. Middleton 619.

3A GIRLS

Marsh Valley (807) held off defending champion Kellogg (821) for the team title at Clear Lake Country Club in Buhl. Kellogg’s Jesse Gibbons (170) rebounded from a two-stroke deficit after the first round for the individual title.

Top five team scores: 1. Marsh Valley 807, 2. Kellogg 821, 3. Fruitland 825, 4. Weiser 833, 5. Shelley 850.

Top five individuals: 1. Jesse Gibbons, Kellogg, 170; 2. Abigail McKinney, Fruitland, 173; 3. Abby Davids, Marsh Valley, 175; 4. Hannah Murdock, Snake River, 186; 5. Abbie Huntsman, Shelley, 193.

3A BOYS

Buhl (607) posted back-to-back championships with a 33-stroke victory over second-place Shelley (640). Buhl teammates Kade Crossland and Hayden Eckert each finished with a two-round total of 144, but Crossland won the individual title in a two-hole playoff.

Top five team scores: 1. Buhl 607, 2. Shelley 640, 3. Snake River 695, 4. Weiser 717, 5. Homedale 721.

Top five individuals: 1. Kade Crossland, Buhl, 144; 2. Hayden Eckert, Buhl, 144; 3. Matt HoChee, Kimberly, 147; 4. Keifer Higham, Shelley, 151; 5. Kasey Crossland, Buhl, 153.

2A GIRLS

Declo (799) made up a five-stroke deficit after the first day to overtake Aberdeen (815) for the championship at Rupert Country Club. New Plymouth’s Lacy Avera (171), who qualified as an individual, won by 10 shots over Aberdeen’s April Beck (181).

Top five team scores: 1. Declo 799, 2. Aberdeen 815, 3. McCall-Donnelly 834, 4. Lighthouse Christian 847, 5. Orofino 906.

Top five individuals: 1. Lacy Avera, New Plymouth, 171; 2. April Beck, Aberdeen, 181; 3. Baylie Holsman, McCall, 186; 4. Katie Buschhorn, Valley, 190; 5. Rachel Webb, Declo, 191.

2A BOYS

Salmon (675) led from start to finish at Rupert Country Club. Salmon’s Jade Barney led the charge, finishing with a two-day total of 147, good for the individual title over Tristan Coles (149) of Ririe.

Top five team scores: 1. Salmon 675, 2. Aberdeen 682, 3. Nampa Christian 692, 4. St. Maries 709, 5. Valley 714.

Top five individuals: 1. Jade Barney, Salmon, 147; 2. Tristan Coles, Ririe, 149; 3. Ben Taylor, Valley, 156; 4. Kaden Isaacson, Nampa Christian, 157; 5. Gavin McCarter, St. Maries, 165.
