Our spring football live chat begins at 10 a.m. today:

Boise State is down to six defensive ends on the roster — and it’s not an accomplished bunch.

Three of the players have little experience: redshirt freshman Mat Boesen, redshirt freshman walk-on Austin Silsby and redshirt sophomore Sam McCaskill (seven tackles).

Two more played last season as true freshmen: Gabe Perez (29 tackles, seven tackles for loss) and Kamalei Correa (12 tackles).

That leaves senior Beau Martin, the CSU-Pueblo transfer who walked on to the team and has contributed the past two seasons. Martin finished with 21 tackles, seven tackles for loss, four sacks and two pass breakups last season.

“This is obviously the most important spring (of my career),” Martin said. “It’s my last spring and it is my opportunity to lead. I’m just trying to soak up every day and not take anything for granted.”

Martin made five of his tackles for loss in the first half of the season but played in every game.

“I felt like I grew every game and got better toward the end,” he said. “There’s things I definitely want to build on.”

He wants to provide physicality and leadership to the defense.

“Just being the most physical player on the field every time I’m out there and play with the most relentlessness,” he said.
