Let the voting begin in the Treasure Valley

Our online voting guide is up and running at IdahoStatesman.com/election. You’ll find our endorsements for the Boise Bond proposals and the Nampa Mayoral Contest at IdahoStatesman.com/opinion.

For our print readers, Sunday Insight this week is dedicated to our 2013 Voters Guide for the Nov. 5 municipal elections.

We have information on more than 50 candidates running for seats in nine Treasure Valley Communities including (Ada County) Boise, Eagle, Garden City, Kuna, Meridian, Star and (Canyon County) Caldwell, Middleton and Nampa.

In addition we have information about the Boise Bond Proposals for public safety and parks/open space improvements, which have a price tag of $16.9 and $15.5 million respectively.

I hope voter turnout far exceeds the low expectations of the typical municipal election. The future of our communities is at stake.

In the following video Mayor Dave Bieter discusses the obstacles and advantages the city’s bond proposals face during a meeting with the Idaho Statesman Editorial Board and coverage team Oct. 1.

On Tuesday we hope to host an online chat with state and county voting officials to discuss early voting and absentee ballot use trends in the area.
