I set a goal this winter to move 125 miles per month for January, February and March. Just finished up my last 8 miles on a bike trainer to get it done for January. My rules are simple: hike, ride, walk, walk the dog, run, run on a treadmill, ride a bike trainer, or anything else that is human powered and measurable in distance.
Most of it (about 65 miles) was mountain biking. Next was riding an indoor bike trainer, and next was walking my dog. My shortest outing was half a mile (walking around the Statesman building twice), and the longest was a 20-mile bike ride. I didn’t count hunting, even though I did a fair amount of walking, because I didn’t want to carry my iphone with me.
February is going to be a little more challenging because it’s a short month, so I can’t procrastinate, which I am prone to doing. I won’t say it’s all been fun, but it’s been worth it, and I’ve dropped about 5 pounds since Christmas. Spring will be here soon, and I don’t want to spend those first beautiful days huffing and puffing and hating myself for laying around all winter.
If you’re looking for an excuse to get moving, the break in the inversion is a sign of what’s ahead. Don’t let it sneak up on you, just get moving.
