It definitely looks like winter in the high country

brunageThere was definitely a winter feel driving down U.S. 95 and Idaho 55 back to Boise from a steelhead fishing trip this weekend.

Brundage Mountain said it all. The ski area has 8 to 15 inches of snow. It definitely looks like winter.

Bogus Basin is reporting about 4 inches after the weekend.

Steelheading was tough but rewarding. My wife and I each caught and released beautiful wild fish. I didn’t want to remove the fish from the water but they looked way, way over 30 inches in length. A silver Hot Shot with yellow tiger stripes and a metallic blue Wiggle Wart paid off.

Fishing pressure was medium to light with the rainy and windy weather. Some anglers were reporting spotty conditions.

Look for my story in Thursday’s Idaho Outdoors about favorite steelhead lures. Good fishing.
