In Dietrich, a teacher’s ‘fight back’

The Twin Falls Times-News had an interesting in-depth article Sunday on Tim McDaniel — a science teacher in the small town of Dietrich, who has been at the center of national attention.

The state is investigating a series of complaints against McDaniel — including a complaint that the veteran teacher used the word “vagina” while teaching sex education. McDaniel could also face a reprimand from the district.

The school board meets tonight, but as The Times-News’ Kimberlee Kruesi reports, McDaniel isn’t expecting the board to act until the state completes its investigation.

In the meantime, Kruesi reports, two parents have withdrawn their names from complaints against McDaniel, and his state license will not be revoked. Meanwhile, some residents in the Magic Valley community are rallying behind McDaniel.

“This has been eye opening for the community,” he said. “I think it’s showing them that you can’t make allegations and not get a fight back.”

For national coverage of the McDaniel story, here’s a link to The Huffington Post.

For an international flavor, here’s a link to an earlier story from the London Daily Mail — which says, prematurely but in true British style, that McDaniel could be “facing the sack” over the incident.
