Mountain bikers obviously love riding trails, but ingrained in the sport is a love of building them as well. That DIY ethic has a checkered past, but volunteers now have a good history of working with land managers and building trails that are not only sustainable, but are a blast to ride. Here’s a seven-minute video out of Washington featuring one such group. The take home message is it takes minutes to ride a mile of great mountain bike trail, but sometimes it takes thousands of hours of volunteer labor to create it. When you become part of that work force, trails are more special, and it’s a great feeling when you ride a trail that you helped create.

It’s okay to dig up dirt, cut down trees, move rocks, destroy micro nature— IF you are doing it for a bike trail. Do it for an ATV or off-road vehichles and the ENVIROMENTALISTS call the lawyers.
Huh? That’s just dumb thinking, Pimp. Get back up on the right side of the bed.
