Idahoans have a new resource to learn about their housing rights

Idahoans have a new resource to help them understand their rights and responsibilities under the federal Fair Housing Act. Four animated videos commissioned by Idaho Housing and Finance Association (IHFA) help viewers understand the basics of fair housing, recognize discrimination, report possible violations and promote accessibility.

The videos, in English and Spanish, are available at idahohousing.com (search for “fair housing videos”) and fairhousingforum.org.

“Education and outreach are the first steps toward ensuring fair and equal access to housing,” said IHFA President Gerald M. Hunter. “These videos are valuable tools that will help build stronger communities throughout Idaho.”

IHFA consulted with regional fair housing stakeholders to develop the videos, which complement the existing Good Neighbors + Fair Housing = Strong Communities initiative involving the 2-1-1 Care Line and members of the Idaho Fair Housing Forum. The 2-1-1 hotline is a free statewide information and referral service that quickly connects callers to fair housing resources, including Intermountain Fair Housing Council, the Idaho Commission on Human Rights and the HUD Fair Housing/Equal Opportunity hotline.

More fair housing information for providers, consumers and advocates is available at fairhousingforum.org.
