The transportation department is planning replace the Broadway-Interstate 84 interchange’s current configuration with what’s known as a single-point urban interchange, or “SPUI.”
The advantage of the SPUI configuration, which the transportation department installed at the Vista Avenue and 10 Mile Road interchanges, is that all traffic runs through a single traffic light array. Some drivers struggle with them at first, but in the long run, transportation specialists say, SPUIs are more efficient movers of traffic.
The transportation department’s open house on the Broadway project is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Shilo Inn Suites, 4111 Broadway Ave., Boise. Representatives of the agency, as well as the city of Boise, will present preliminary plans for the project and answer questions on it.
