Idaho CD2: Smith among WaPo’s Q1 fundraising “losers”

Today, Washington Post bloggers Sean Sullivan and Aaron Blake┬ácalled Idaho second congressional district challenger Bryan Smith a fundraising loser in the first quarter, the last full quarter before Idaho’s May 20 Republican primary.

Smith, an Idaho Falls attorney and debt collector, raised 137,000 in the first quarter of this year, less than one-third of the haul for incumbent Mike Simpson. Sullivan and Blake lumped Smith in with a handful of other candidates backed by hard-right groups, such as Club for Growth and Senate Conservatives Fund, who failed to impress in first-quarter fundraising.

“As we’ve written, the field of tea party candidates challenging Republican incumbents is wider than it is deep,” Sullivan and Blake wrote.
