Have you taken a spin on the ice at The Village at Meridian?
Just the right size: The postage stamp-sized outdoor rink — just 70-feet by 28-feet — is the perfect size for a half hour of outdoor fun on a wintry afternoon or evening. The rink is open noon to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday (through Feb. 22).
Where is it?: Nestled in the plaza between the Village Cinema and Kona Grill, it’s a fun atmosphere — music, fountains with colorful light shows and a nearby warming area for those who just want to watch. On Wednesday night, falling snow made it a winter wonderland.
Cash only: Admission is $5 (13 and older) and $3 (12 and under). Bring your own skates or rent a pair for $2.
Specials: “Monday Madness” (buy one admission, get one free); skate for just $2 on Tuesday (including skate rental); Wednesday and Thursday, groups of five or more skate half price.
Big snowflakes fell Wednesday night, step-sisters Allie Jones, 14, and Hailey Murray, 13, had the ice all to themselves. Watch the video of the pair, and see some of the attractions of the rink:
“Our rink has been really successful,” said Peggy Davis, Guest Service manager at The Village at Meridian. “We’ve been really happy about the turnout and the enthusiasm that people have expressed. They love it.”
Davis said Saturdays are the busiest, and they have to limit skaters to just a half hour when people are waiting to skate. Mondays are the slowest (there’s no time limit when it’s slow).
