Hunting for the sun

skiCouldn’t take it anymore. We had to head out of town looking for the sun on Sunday. We found it about 30 miles up Idaho 21 as we neared Idaho City.

From there to Mores Creek and Beaver Creek summits, it was great to get into blue skies and ski the backside of Beaver Creek Summit overlooking the South Fork of the Payette River Canyon.

Snow conditions weren’t bad despite the lack of it. Groomed trails were good and not too icy. Off trail was skimpy but the snow was frozen corn flakes and actually not bad for tele skiing where it was deep enough.

The scary thing was looking across the South Fork Payette River Canyon and seeing a lot of brown where there should be white this winter.

Anyway, everybody’s predicting a front to come through on Tuesday and clear the air in the valley. Hope so. The storm alarm on my watch has been going crazy the last few days, so maybe we will really get a storm.
