By my count, there have been more than 30 pet food recalls so far this year. And I’m a little upset to see that one of the brands / foods that I feed my dog, Gracie, was part of one of the recent recalls.
BluePearl Veterinary out of Chicago put out a press release Monday about six pet food recalls due to salmonella in the United States over the past six months.
“We want to make sure that people are aware of these recalls and taking the information seriously,” said Dr. Neil Shaw, chief medical officer of BluePearl Veterinary Partners, in the release.
The release notes that salmonella isn’t just a health risk for pets, but also for humans. Pet owners are advised to thoroughly wash hands, counters and any surfaces touched by pet food. Symptoms of salmonella poisoning in pets: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, lethargy, fever and abdominal discomfort.
