The Girls on the Run program combines training for a 5K running event with life-changing, confidence-boosting lessons that encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical development for pre-teen girls. Currently there are over 200 Girls on the Run councils across the United States and Canada including one here in the Treasure Valley. In the Treasure Valley the program serves 500-600 girls at 40-50 sites each year.
The SoleMates program is an adult charity that lets men and women raise money for their local Girls ont he Run councils. Participants register for an event of their choice, half-marathon, marathon, etc., then agree to raise money in conjunction with their event to donate to Girls on the Run.
An introductory meeting for SoleMates in the Treasure Valley will be help at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 19 at Shu’s Running Company, 1758 W. State St. in Boise.
