A 4-month-old dachshund-terrier puppy named Katy was stolen from the Canyon County Animal Shelter in Caldwell Friday afternoon, according to shelter Director Barb Hutchinson.
The puppy, who hadn’t even spent a night at the shelter, was taken sometime between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Friday. Hutchinson said she’s filed a police report with the Caldwell Police Department.
Hutchinson said there’s no surveillance camera in the puppy room, but there are cameras in the hallways and lobby. Shelter workers suspect the puppy was smuggled out the front door under a coat because the side doors have alarms.
“We are going to have to start locking the cages in the puppy/small dog room, I guess,” Hutchinson said Sunday.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the is puppy is asked to call Caldwell Police, 455-3115, or the Canyon County Animal Shelter, 455-5920.
