Have a service dog? Free eye exams offered in May at Garden City’s WestVet

The vision of service dogs is critical for the safety of those who they assist, and that’s why members of a national group is honoring their work with free eye exams.

The American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists is holding its 6th annual ACVO/Merial National Service Dog Eye Exam event this month. Garden City veterinarian Carrie Breux at WestVet in Garden City is participating.

Breaux is a board certified veterinary ophthalmologist. During exams, Breux looks for looks for redness, squinting, cloudy corneas, retinal disease, early cataracts and other serious abnormalities.

“Our hope is that by checking their vision early and often, we will be able to help a large number of service animals better assist their human friends,” Stacee Daniel, executive director of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists, said in a press release Tuesday.

WestVet is at 5019 N. Sawyer Ave., Garden City. To make an appointment, call 375-1600.
