The Boise State football program posted a team-best Academic Progress Rate of 993 during the four-year period ending in 2011-12, the NCAA announced Tuesday.

The Broncos ranked second in the Football Bowl Subdivision, behind Northwestern (996). They tied for second in the APR last year.

APR measures eligibility, retention and graduation of scholarship athletes. The NCAA levies penalties against schools with low APRs but Boise State, Idaho and Idaho State avoided penalties this year.

Boise State led the Mountain West in football, men’s cross country (990), men’s indoor track and field (985), men’s outdoor track and field (979) and swimming and diving (991). Football, men’s indoor track and field, men’s outdoor track and field, swimming and diving, women’s golf (992), soccer (986), softball (963) and wrestling (950) set team records.

The department’s overall APR was 977. That translates into earning 97.7 percent of possible points.
