Ever smell a pie baking in the oven and start salivating? That’s how I felt when I saw a bulldozer cutting the new flow trail at the Eagle Bike Park. Those swoopy, flowy lines are going to make a two-wheeled roller coaster ride. It’s exciting to see it coming together, and thank goodness Ada County commissioners let it proceed.
It was also great to see members of the Southwest Idaho Mountain Bike Association out there Saturday leading kids on a group ride. The bike park is a gem, and with the flow trail underway and the winter terrain park in the works, it has a chance to be even more special.
It’s frustrating to see the park locked in a political battle. It has been a great partnership between local government and community volunteers, who’ve donated countless hours and tens of thousands of dollars to build, maintain and improve the park. Maybe the commissioners need to go spend an hour or two at the park on a Saturday morning, or join some volunteers at the park to see firsthand the dedication and effort people put into it.
And a big thanks to all who’ve contributed through the years. The bike park really is a special place that provides a lot fun for everyone from kids pedaling their first bike to gray-haired guys trying to stay fit and ride some trails.
