Boise State and Florida State announced Monday that they will play a home-and-home football series in 2019 and 2020.

The teams will play in Tallahassee, Fla., on Sept. 7, 2019, and in Boise on Sept. 12, 2020.

Florida State is the third Bowl Championship Series-conference school outside the Northwest to agree to play a regular-season game at Bronco Stadium — and the second in a week. Michigan State (2022) and Virginia (2017) are the others.

Murphy: A few theories on Boise State’s recent football scheduling

Florida State is one of the top college football programs historically. The Seminoles have appeared in a nation-leading 31 straight bowl games and they won the national title in 1993 and 1999.

“Scheduling a home-and-home series against a perennial Top 25 program like Florida State is another step in growing our football program,” Boise State Athletic Director Mark Coyle said in a statement. “Florida State is a team fans talk about when discussing the top collegiate programs in the country and I know Bronco Nation will be excited about hosting a team like the Seminoles in Boise.”

Said Florida State Athletic Director Randy Spetman: “We are very excited to add Boise State to our future football schedule. Boise State has an excellent football program and we feel this will be an out of conference game that will be exciting for fans of both schools and appealing to TV networks. Adding the Broncos to our football schedule continues our commitment to bringing top quality opponents to Doak Campbell Stadium. With our neutral site game versus Oklahoma State in 2014, the addition of Pitt and Syracuse to the ACC and now this series, we feel we are putting our football program in the best possible position to compete in the new BCS beginning in 2014.”

Here is Boise State’s updated list of future non-conference opponents:

at Washington (Aug. 31)
vs. Tennessee Martin (Sept. 7)

  1. Go Figure says:

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm seeing as Boise State currently only has TWO non-conference games scheduled for the 2014 football season……….MAYBE………….just MAYBE they ought to be concentrating on finding two more non-conference opponents for the 2014 football season rather than scheduling games for six years from now.

Plus they also need one more non-conference game for the 2015 football season.

    • B43S42U says:

      Takes all kinds……..

    • JLandon says:

Shoot man, why didnt they hire you to be AD?

    • nat turner says:

Why doesn’t Coach Pete ask all car wash employees how it should be done?

      • Go Figure says:

Oh no………looks like the Kool-Aid drinking Boise State fans are upset when someone points out FACTS to them…………LOL

FACT – Boise State has only TWO non-conference games scheduled for the 2014 season and they NEED to get two more A.S.A.P.

FACT – Boise State needs one more non-conference game for the 2015 season as well.

Those are FACTS………go ahead and drink your Kool-Aid and tell yourselves that they aren’t true. And make more childish comments. We’re all used to it from the Kool-Aid drinking Boise State fans.

        • B43S42U says:

Actually it’s childish to think that a program should not schedule any game past it’s next opening. Using your lame logic, BSU would not have Virginia, Washington, Washington State, Michigan State, or Florida State on it’s schedule right now.

A little college football knowledge goes a long way….

And for the record, Florida State also has an opening in 2014 and 2015, along with 3 openings in 2016.

You feeling a little lame right about now?

          “Kool-Aid drinking Boise State fans”

You cliched a phrase in a single post. Kudos. Now expand that repertoire of scathing truths into some new words…

          Hmmmmmmmmm…or keep being a douchenozzle.

    • GRogers says:

Give me a break! No matter what is done, we have the complainers and negative people out there condeming or being critical of the BSU athletic program. You have to remember we have a new athtletic director at BSU and he is doing his job correctly. The last AD should have scheduled 6 years out 12 years ago. The top teams do this consistantly and the new AD is smart enough to figure out the system. You need to read some Dale Carnigie books and get a grip…I am sure that scheduling teams in closer years is being done, but due to the lack of expertise from the last AD, BSU is doing the best they can.

    • bonwell says:

Funny, I just thought the EXACT OPPOSITE. As in, I’m so glad we finally have an AD that actually plans these things in advance, like grown-up schools do, so we can get home games against big teams like Michigan State and Florida State, instead of scrambling every year to find some game against Toledo or Southern Miss because the Broncos never fill out their schedules far enough in advance.

  2. B43S42U says:

Nice get, hopefully the MWC will be a memory by then.

    • Good says:

That 120 million figure is a HUGE exageration and misrepresentation. This is from the article you cited: “But after paying the Catholic 7, along with a small sum for the recently added and future Big East schools — SMU, Houston, Memphis, Central Florida, Temple, Tulane, and East Carolina — the league will reportedly sign hefty checks for Connecticut, Cincinnati, and South Florida.
After payments and operating costs, Blaudschun estimated that each school could make between $18 million and $25 million once the settlement is reached.”

      • B43S42U says:

Um, and the $20M I mentioned missed the mark how?

After payments and operating costs, Blaudschun estimated that each school could make between $18 million and $25 million once the settlement is reached.”

  3. broncos81 says:

great news. and yes, hopefully the mt west is in the rear view at that point.

  4. Can’t wait to See FSU and Boise.

  5. Josh_Johnston says:

Great to see these ACC teams on the schedule. It means I get to dust off the dirty lyrics to their fight songs from my college days.

  6. charliebub says:

Lookin’ up, lock some quality teams down early and leave a few blanks in the out year schedules for big name schools at a neutral site.

  7. olaman says:

Some people would complain no matter what you do.

  8. flipper says:

How about a good non league home and home in the next 6 years? Virginia is constant ACC doormat as is Washington State in the PAC 12. Mississippi next year is one of the lesser SEC teams and their not evening coming to Boise, unless you count the southern half. BYU is decent but dull and nobody outside of the Intermountain west follows them, the Washington Huskies have been poor to mediocre now for 11 years and it is still 3 seasons until they come to town. How about somebody decent in the next seven years before waiting until 2020?

    • Tim says:

Ole miss might be tougher than you think if their 5th ranked recruiting class plays to their potential.

  9. foreignoregonian says:

    FSU could stink by then!

  10. Bill Bowen says:

I’m a long-time FSU season ticket holder and I think this is great for both schools. I live near Miami and it’s a 1000-mile round trip for home games, so I have no desire to see a Savannah State game. I’ve been to a game at BSU and it is a super environment. Regarding the timing of the game, the future football schedule for FSU, and all ACC schools, is in a bit of flux for the next couple years because of the uncertainty caused by the recent addition of Pitt and Syracuse and Notre Dame’s 5-game ACC schedule. Anyway, this will be a great series. Go Noles!

  11. Charles B says:

Boise State needs to schedule 2 or 3 FSU caliber games per year, not just wait until 2019. As it is now, they play no one of consequence for the next 7 years, thus ensuring that Boise will be in the national title conversation every year unless they get upset by a wienie team. FSU got nationwide respect by being independent and playing one of the most difficult schedules in college football in the 80s and early 90s….AND kicking butt. Boise needs to do the same thing. As it is now, they get all the credit in the polls without doing the hard work…these 1 or 2 game seasons dont prove much. Does anyone think Louisville is better than Florida? Exactly. Leave your conference and start doing what FSU and Miami did to the establishment in the 80s (woodshed), then you’ll get some serious respect. The Big Ten and Pac 12 will come calling with an invite, then you can crush them too. Your recruiting will also jump to the elite ranks.

    • ron says:

Well started. Boise needs to get over the one tough game a season mentality and schedule some real teams. Waiting 7 1/2 years before a quality opponent visits Boise is much too long. No offense, but BYU, Virginia and Washington are at best middle of the road teams with 10 year records to prove it. Get some cajones and replicate what Florida State did in 1981 when trying to elevate their program, in a 5 week stretch, all on the road, they played Nebraska, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and LSU. That is not UT Martin and Southern Miss!
