Five Things You Should Do This Weekend in Boise

When you aren’t complaining about your summer pet peeves

1. HEAD FOR THE MOUNTAINS
It isn’t too late to blow this popsicle stand. Go for a hike in Sun Valley, below. Or you can still buy tickets to the MASSV Music & Arts Showcase in Sun Valley or the McCall Music Festival. Want low-key musical entertainment? Check out Music From Stanley.

2. LAUGH WITH LOCALS
One good thing about Fourth of July weekend: There’s actually parking available Downtown. Take advantage and head to Liquid Laughs Saturday night for round one of “Boise’s Funniest Person.” Amateur comedians will go head to head in a competition for cash and bragging rights.

3. TAKE YOURSELF OUT TO THE BALL GAME
Don’t look now, but the heat has broken for a couple of days. Translation: It’s a perfect opportunity to go scarf down a hotdog and see the Boise Hawks take on the Tri-City Dust Devils. There are games today through Monday. [Tickets]

4. CELEBRATE BOISE
The Boise 150 summer Sesqui-Party kicks off at 11:30 a.m. Sunday with a bicycle parade at City Hall. After that, the celebration unfurls into an amalgam of music, food, drink and fun at Julia Davis Park. [More]

5. SEE ART
The first Boise Plein Air Arts Competition is happening all weekend. You can watch Northwest artists put paint to canvas outdoors, drawing inspiration from their surroundings. Highlights include a Quick Draw Contest tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Capitol Park, and a free gallery show from 4 to 8 p.m. at Green Chuts, 4716 W. State St.[More]
