1. RUB UP AGAINST THE KNITTING FACTORY
Could it be any more fitting? An Internet Cat Video Festival tonight at the Yarn Barn? Scoff all you want, but watching cat videos while sipping wine and beer with a few hundred of your closest friends will be a riot. Keyboard Cat will even make a special live guest appearance. Bite it, Rover. [Tickets]
2. INSTIGATE THE DANCE FLOOR
DJ/producer Wick-it The Instigator was a hit at last year’s MASSV Music Festival in Sun Valley. “This guy crushes it,” says Henry Rennar, who brought Wick-it to that festival and booked him Saturday night at Reef in Boise. Check out Wick-it’s Soundcloud page, where he’s had almost 6,000,000 plays. Warning: profanity in video.
3. WATCH LOCAL ARTISTS
The third annual “Artist Sweatshop” will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Crooked Fence Barrelhouse. It’s a fun, cool process to watch. But if you get bored, you can always play shuffleboard on that table that needs leveled to keep the pucks from fading toward the middle. (What, do I sound like I’ve played there before?)
4. ROOT FOR YOUR TEAM
The Idaho Steelheads play the Utah Grizzlies tonight at CenturyLink Arena (with that 4 for $46 ticket deal.) The Idaho Stampede — with exciting, 5-foot-10-inch D-League star Pierre Jackson — welcome the Santa Cruz Warriors Saturday night in the same arena. And the Boise State Broncos host Utah State Saturday night at Taco Bell Arena.
5. HAVE A NEW BREW
The Treasure Valley brewery blitz just keeps rolling. The new kid on the block is Woodland Empire Ale Craft, which opened its tasting room Tuesday at 11th and Front streets. With a beer named after Boise rock band Built To Spill, these Texans-turned-Idahoans are aiming for the hometown crowd. Hours this weekend are 3-11 p.m. tonight, noon to 11 Saturday, noon to 8 Sunday.
