When you aren’t getting psyched up for shopping …
1. CELEBRATE THE SEASON
Citywide power shortage! Winter Garden aGlow flipped the switch on Thanksgiving Day. Check out the Idaho Botanical Garden’s 308,000+ lights now through the end of the holiday season. Buy advance tickets here or check out this 360-degree visual tour. Other weekend options: Boise’s Tree Lighting Celebration is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at The Grove plaza. And The Village at Meridian will light its 40-foot tree at 6 p.m. today — also offering photos with Santa, an ice rink for kids, etc.
2. ROCK WITH JEFF CROSBY
Idaho musician turned Los Angeles roots-rocker Jeff Crosby is ready to celebrate. He had two songs featured this season on FX’s motorcycle gang series “Sons of Anarchy.” He and his band, The Refugees, even got a beer named after them — the sage-infused Refugee Sage Pale Ale from Salmon River Brewery. Crosby is back for a holiday run that takes the group to Reef in Boise Nov. 29 and River Run Lodge and Whiskey Jacques’ in the Sun Valley area Nov. 30. Show up thirsty: That Refugee beer will be on tap at all the gigs.
3. HIT VILLAGE CINEMA
Trust me. If you haven’t visited the new 15-screen multiplex at Fairview and Eagle, you’re missing out. The place is plush. I shot the quick phone video below while doing reporting for an article. Read about the over-21 VIP area in my Scene column today. Find out more about how Village Cinema is changing the moviegoing landscape on the front page of Sunday’s Idaho Statesman.
4. TAILGATE ON SENIOR DAY
This is your last chance to bundle up and join the party in the parking lot at Bronco Stadium this season. BSU plays New Mexico Saturday in a game that, OK, mostly lacks drama. (Except for the whole starting QB scenario.) No biggie. Tailgate the entire second half if you want! Kickoff is at 8:21 p.m.
5. TAKE GRANDMA TO CELTIC THUNDER
Hey, we can’t all be party animals. That’s why Celtic Thunder is polite enough to start their “Mythology” performance at 5 o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday at the Morrison Center. [Tickets] By the way, I dare you not to giggle during the video below.
