When you aren’t plotting your schedule for next week’s 282-band Treefort Music Fest …
1. PRETEND YOU’RE IRISH
With St. Paddy’s Day on a Sunday, the celebration starts now and goes all weekend. You can hit the bars without pants. You can nosh on corned beef and cabbage and watch the Boise Highlanders play bagpipes all over town. (Massive schedule here.) You can even drink green beer at a dog-friendly Food Truck Rally in Nampa. Here are more ideas.
2. LAUGH IT UP
Three choices for blowing off steam this weekend: a) Check out “Last Comic Standing” alum Brian McKim tonight through Sunday at Liquid. b) Chuckle with Vince Martin tonight and Saturday at the Varsity Pub in Meridian. c) Or join the family-friendly improv fun with ComedySportz Boise on Saturday.
3. LET YOUR BODY HIT THE FLOOR
With an onslaught of indie-hipsters on the Boise horizon, now’s the time to steel yourself with some red-blooded, American rawk. If Flyleaf and Drowning Pool at the Knitting Factory won’t do it, nothing will. (Actually, that’s not true. But they’re the best we’ve got Saturday.) Just a friendly reminder: The “Let the Bodies Hit the Floor” growler tragically is no longer in the band.)
4. PRETEND YOU’RE DANIEL BOONE
If the Boise Spring Home Show at Expo Idaho is too domestic for you this weekend, try Cabela’s instead. The massive outdoors mecca is throwing a two-day bash for camping nuts. And gun lovers. And trippy loner dudes. Workshops range from Boise River and steelhead fishing to survival skills and ladies’ non-lethal self-defense. Full schedule here.
5. SAVOR CINEMA
No, it’s not quite Sundance yet. But the Sun Valley Film Festival has high aspirations and the atmosphere to lure celebrities. It began Thursday and runs through Sunday — finishing with the powerful film “Girl Rising.” [More]
