Five Things You Should Do This Weekend in Boise

When you aren’t stuffing your face with gourmet coffee and gigantic pastries

1. GET AN EDGE
Spacious Edge Brewing Co. flung open its doors this week near Emerald and Maple Grove. This gang has a fine attitude about variety when it comes to beer and pub food, so you should check it out. “But, but,” you splutter, Belgian-style tripel dribbling down your chin, another new brewery?” Yes, madam. And I say savor the trend. By my count, nine more breweries plan to open this year in the Treasure Valley. Of course, I’ve had enough brew lately that counting might not be my strongest suit.

2. TAKE YOUR BAD SELF TO THE VAC
Performers from across Idaho will congregate for THE belly dance event of the year Saturday at Visual Arts Collective: the fourth annual Big Bad-Ass Belly Dance Show. It’s even for a good cause. P.S. Be safe, dancers …

3. BE FREE AT THE ZOO
By “being free,” I’m definitely not talking about taking off your clothes. Brrrr. But it’s worth bundling up Saturday. Zoo Boise won’t charge admission during its “Wild at Heart” pre-Valentine’s Day celebration.

4. THINK SPRING
If you’ve had it with winter, think warm thoughts all weekend at the Canyon County Spring Home Show at Ford Arena in Nampa. Look, it has to be more exciting than actually watching grass grow. (I challenge you to watch this entire 6-minute video.)

5. CHEER ON THE STEELIES
The Idaho Steelheads take on the Colorado Eagles tonight and Saturday. [Tickets] (And remember, they have that “4 for $46 Fridays” special tonight.) Let’s hope for action like the classic “Slap Shot” scene below. (Warning: f-bomb profanity)
